The Research Group Brand Identity

The Research Group produces software that increases the quality and speed of scientific research. Through their non-profit
arm, they provide financial support, academic access and support services to scholarship recipients globally.
Our challenge was to deliver a branding and naming system that would link together but also clearly differentiate the entities within this complex, dynamic organisation.
Delivery
We proposed an identity and naming convention based on the “3 Rs”, representing the parent company, the SAAS research tool for academics and the nonprofit foundation for students.
The entity names became:
- The Research Group
- The Research Assistant
- The Research Foundation
Our design solution focused on the R in research.
The Research Assistant acronym – TRA – is hidden within the R icon, as is the Japanese symbol for person (人).
The positioning of the dot in The Research Assistant and The Research Foundation logos refers to the input and output of the data journey.
And importantly, given The Research Group was a startup, it was important to create visual identity guidelines that weren’t only simple to use but flexible for future uses.
